#020 (164) // The Hunger Games [2012]

watched: 22/03/2012

I tried to come up with an accurate description of why this is so amazing and you should all see this - fan of the books or not. But I can’t. It is everything I wanted it to be and more, and every person with half a brain can see how much love, thought and consideration went into it. It is obvious that it was done by people who would only touch this series if it was going to be great. Jennifer Lawrence only ever auditioned for the role of Katniss to tell them that they should not adapt the books into a film because movies never do the books justice; I suppose the fact that Suzanne Collins herself worked on it changed Lawrence’s mind. Thank fuck.  10/10

#018 (162) // Like Crazy [2011]

watched: 11/03/2012

Deluded that Jennifer Lawrence would have a major part in this film, I was left disappointed. I could relate to it in a way that I’ve been in a long distance relationship myself, and yes it is hard as hell, and the lead actors were very believable, but I just didn’t really care too much for any of it. In addition to that, somehow the first 15 minutes set a mood that had me thinking one of them was gonna snap and kill the other. A bit of a disappointment when that didn’t happen.   4/10

#128 X-Men: First Class [2011]

watched: 25/10/2011

The first imdb review for this is short, but pretty to the point: “A prequel that does not, in any way, suck. Amazing, isn’t it?”
It’s pretty fun and entertaining, but in a way that makes me think Green Lantern was undeserving of the 8 out of 10 it received on here earlier this year. It’s clever with a good cast and convincing effects. Kevin Bacon’s German accent was dismal. quite likely all his other accents were even worse, but Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy were perfect casting. Also this feels like a good time to mention how flipping excited I am about Jennifer Lawrence in the Hunger Games.

All in all, a very nice way to spend the evening.   8/10

#113 Winter’s Bone [2010]

watched: 25/08/2011

Watched this purely because Jennifer Lawrence is going to star in The Hunger Games as Katniss and while I have absolute faith in her, I still thought I should at least see one of her movies to get an idea of her acting skills. So as far as that goes, I was pleased because she definitely knows how to play a fighter living in poverty.
However, poor people are depressing and so this whole thing just kind of drags, to the point where I was wondering what the whole point to it was. I’ve seen this refered to as Winter’s Bore, and while I wouldn’t go that far, it is a bit underwhelming.   4/10
